About the Artist

During my Degree studies the main focus of my training was drawing and painting from the life model. The human figure, especially portraiture, has continued to be my first source of inspiration.

One of the challenges of realism in figurative painting is how to keep painting in a confident and spontaneous way without losing the painstaking accuracy of observation needed to get a likeness and a realistic effect. For me it is exploring the balance between these two aspects – between the looking and the painting, the subject and the medium, the illusion and the brushwork, that keeps me fascinated with painting and developing as an artist.
